Shoreham Port in the UK has officially opened Fishersgate Marina, a newly expanded facility that doubles berthing capacity for inshore fishing vessels. Enabled by the UK Seafood Fund and built by Walcon Marine, the project marks an upgrade in fishing infrastructure along the south coast.

The transformation of Shoreham Port’s fishing marina was made possible through the UK Government’s Seafood Fund: Infrastructure Scheme. The funding allowed the replacement of the old Nicolson’s Marina with a modern, near-shore facility designed to accommodate today’s commercial fishing needs.
The new marina now offers berthing for up to 50 vessels, double its previous capacity. The marina is specifically designed to support catamaran fishing boats up to 15-metre in length. Each berth is equipped with shore power and freshwater access, which are featured for the first time on the site.
Walcon Marine, responsible for the supply and installation, used their commercial-grade System 21 pontoons fitted with non-slip mesh decking.
Harbour Master and Director of Marine Operations at Shoreham Port, Julian Seaman, stated at the marina’s opening ceremony, “We are delighted to officially open Fishersgate Marina today, following several months of refurbishment works. The funding we received from the UK Seafood Fund: Infrastructure Scheme has enabled us to enhance our facilities for inshore fishing vessels and expand opportunities for other fishers to visit the area.”
Walcon Marine’s Managing Director, James Walters, commented: “It’s been a pleasure to return to Shoreham Port once again, following the replacement of the 100 plus berth Lady Bee Marina that we completed in the spring of 2021.”
The completion of the Fishersgate Marina shows the UK’s continued investment in sustainable fishing infrastructure. By doubling capacity and introducing modern berthing amenities, the redevelopment supports both local fishers and the broader inshore fishing industry.
