Marina Port Vell in Barcelona has been awarded its second Biosphere Certification by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR). The recognition acknowledges the marina’s commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility and responsible management practices.

Marina Port Vell is located in Barcelona and offers direct access to yachting services and companies. The marina is celebrated for its year-round accessibility, providing for both leisure and professional maritime activities.

At Marina Port Vell, we are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact and make a positive contribution to Barcelona’s surroundings.”

Sustainable efforts at Marina Port Vell
Marina Port Vell has an Environmental, Social and Governance Plan (ESG) that aligns with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plan’s slogan “All Committed” focuses on reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible operations. The plan includes a commitment to conserving the Mediterranean, collaborating with Barcelona for a sustainable future and prioritising high-quality employment and service provision.
The marina has ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme certifications (EMAS), a voluntary European eco-management and environmental audit regulation. In 2024, the marina renewed both certifications to continue focusing on improving sustainability practices.

In addition, Marina Port Vell completed a €20 million project in July 2024. The project included reorganising the water surface, new landscaping and upgrading the fuel supply system to improve safety and reduce environmental risks.
The marina also introduced an electric bicycle service for visiting crews and expanded its wastewater collection points, further promoting eco-friendly practices.

Biosphere Certification
The Biosphere Certification is a voluntary and independent certification system for sustainable tourism, awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI). It encourages tourism companies to develop products and services within a sustainable framework of a non-aggressive tourism model.
